I remember having these a couple of times as a kid, and I loved them! I have to admit, I'm a real sucker for cream cheese - anything. I came across this recipe online and it looked like a vamped up version from what I had before. I made these for my husband and mom while she was in town, and they both agreed that they were delicious! I know we will definitely be bringing these on as a regular meal in our house. I hope you all enjoy this one too :)

Ingredients:
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 tablespoons dried chives
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh onion, minced
3 chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
2 (8 ounce) cans crescent rolls
1/4 cup melted butter
Italian bread crumbs
1 (14.5 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
1 package chicken gravy mix
Directions:
1. Using a hand mixer, beat cream cheese and sour cream until well combined. Stir in salt, pepper, onion, chives, and diced chicken.
2. Using Pillsbury crescent rolls, take 2 triangular rolls and push together at perforated seam to make into a square. Make sure you seal the perforations well so your filling doesn't come out. Put about 3 tablespoons of chicken mixture in the center of each square. Fold the dough corners to the center over the chicken mixture forming a pillow.
3. Dip each pillow in melted butter on both sides. Roll in bread crumbs on both sides. Shake excess crumbs off. Place chicken pillow on cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
4. Make gravy by mixing one package of chicken gravy mix, one can of cream of chicken soup and 3/4 can of water in a small pot. Mix together and heat until warm. Serve chicken pillows with gravy poured over top.

you can also short cut this recipe and use the sour cream and chive Cream cheese....dried onions mmmmm...cuts prep and ingredients to a minimal

ReplyDeleteThanks for all the sweet comments! :) To answer some questions from above - this recipe makes 8 chicken pillows - yes, I'm pretty sure Utah is known for these! - and cheese on top sounds great! I will have to try that as well sometime - and the pillowcase issue :)....I tried to put a good amount of mixture in each square of dough, so the filling kept it nice and plump.

ReplyDeleteWe tried them last night! They were a BIG hit with my older kiddos (6 & 10) and the hubby! I didn't have any bread crumbs so I skipped the butter and crumbs step...They were really good. I think these would make a GREAT appetizer - when you fuse the two triangles together cut them in half to make two squares then scoop less into each pillow...ALSO I had some chicken mix left over...

These have become a monthly staple in our home- we had left over filling the first time so I just got three cresent roll cans and that seems to solve the issue for us... but yummy thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing! I used all light, reduced fat or fat free ingredients & added some Tony Chacherese (sp?) Lol .some Italian seasoning & used half Italian style breadcrumbs mixed with half Panko. I will be showing this recipe off for the family during holidays ;0)

ReplyDeleteOk I made this with a few minor changes- all reduced fat ingredients and no rolling in butter or breadcrumbs (I just sprinkled the dough with Italian seasoning and it was......AMAZING! Going in my favorite pile. Everyone loved it!
